[4:29]  1 tn Heb “heart,” i.e., mind. (The Hebrew term translated “heart” often refers to the mental faculties.)

[4:30]  2 tn Heb “the wisdom of Solomon was greater than the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.”

[4:31]  3 tn Heb “his name was in all the surrounding nations.”

[4:32]  4 tn Heb “spoke.”

[10:3]  5 tn Heb “Solomon declared to her all her words; there was not a word hidden from the king which he did not declare to her.” If riddles are specifically in view (see v. 1), then one might translate, “Solomon explained to her all her riddles; there was no riddle too complex for the king.”

[15:8]  6 tn The meaning of סוֹד (sod) is “confidence.” In the context the implication is “secret counsel” of the Lord God (see Jer 23:18). It is a question of confidence on the part of God, that only wisdom can know (see Prov 8:30,31). Job seemed to them to claim to have access to the mind of God.

[15:8]  7 tn In v. 4 the word meant “limit”; here it has a slightly different sense, namely, “to reserve for oneself.”

[25:14]  8 tn Heb “the advice of the Lord belongs to those who fear him.”

[25:14]  9 tn Heb “and his covenant, to make them know.”

[2:28]  10 tn Aram “a revealer of mysteries.” The phrase serves as a quasi-title for God in Daniel.

[2:28]  11 tn Aram “in the latter days.”

[2:28]  12 tn Aram “your dream and the visions of your head upon your bed.”

[5:12]  13 tc The translation reads מִפְשַׁר (mifshar) rather than the MT מְפַשַּׁר (mÿfashar) and later in the verse reads וּמִשְׁרֵא (mishre’) rather than the MT וּמְשָׁרֵא (mÿshare’). The Masoretes have understood these Aramaic forms to be participles, but they are more likely to be vocalized as infinitives. As such, they have an epexegetical function in the syntax of their clause.

[5:12]  14 tn Aram “to loose knots.”

[5:12]  15 tn Aram “let [Daniel] be summoned.”
