O list to the voice of the prophet of old,Proclaiming in language divine,The wonderful, wonderful message of truth,That “they that be wise shall shine.”
They shall shine as bright as the stars,In the firmament jeweled with light; And they that turn many to righteousnessAs the stars forever bright.
Tho’ rugged the path where our duty may lead,O! why should we ever repine? When faithful and true is the promise to allThat “they that be wise shall shine.”
The grandeur of wealth, and the temples of fame,Where beauty and splendor combine,Will perish, forgotten and crumble to dust,But “they that be wise shall shine.”
Then let us go forth to the work yet to do,With zeal that shall never decline,Be strong in the Lord, and the promise believe,That “they that be wise shall shine.”
We may tarry awhile here as strangers,Unnoticed by those who pass by;But the Savior will crown us in glory,To shine as the stars in the sky.
We shall shine as the stars of the morning,With Jesus the Crucified One;We shall rise to be like Him forever,Eternally shine as the sun.
We may never be rich in earth’s treasures,Nor rise on the ladder of fame; But the saints will at last be rewarded,Made rich in Immanuel’s Name.
We may live in a tent or a cottage,And die in seclusion alone; But the Father Who seeth in secret,Remembers each one of His own.
Lift up the trumpet, and loud let it ring:Jesus is coming again!Cheer up, ye pilgrims, be joyful and sing:Jesus is coming again!
Coming again, coming again,Jesus is coming again!
Echo it, hilltops; proclaim it, ye plains:Jesus is coming again!Coming in glory, the Lamb that was slain;Jesus is coming again!
Heavings of earth, tell the vast, wondering throng:Jesus is coming again!Tempests and whirlwinds, the anthem prolong;Jesus is coming again!
Nations are angry—by this we do knowJesus is coming again!Knowledge increases; men run to and fro;Jesus is coming again!
