They witnessed the acts of the Lord, his amazing feats on the deep water.

The Lord’s deeds are great, eagerly awaited ¹  by all who desire them.

His acts are characterized by ¹  faithfulness and justice; all his precepts are reliable. ² 

I will not die, but live, and I will proclaim what the Lord has done. ¹ 

I increased my possessions: ¹  I built houses for myself; ²  I planted vineyards for myself.

When I look up at the heavens, which your fingers made, and see the moon and the stars, which you set in place, ¹ 

The Lord avenges me. ¹  O Lord, your loyal love endures. Do not abandon those whom you have made! ² 

This will happen because they have abandoned me and offered sacrifices ¹  to other gods, angering me with all the idols they have made. ²  My anger will ignite against this place and will not be extinguished!’”

Yet when I reflected on everything I had accomplished ¹  and on all the effort that I had expended to accomplish it, ²  I concluded: ³  “All these ⁴  achievements and possessions ⁵  are ultimately ⁶  profitless ⁷  – like chasing the wind! There is nothing gained ⁸  from them ⁹  on earth.”

Their webs cannot be used for clothing; they cannot cover themselves with what they make. Their deeds are sinful; they commit violent crimes. ¹

Then Jesus, while teaching in the temple courts, ¹  cried out, ²  “You both know me and know where I come from! ³  And I have not come on my own initiative, ⁴  but the one who sent me ⁵  is true. You do not know him, ⁶
