The leaders brought onyx stones and other gems to be mounted ¹  for the ephod and the breastpiece,

onyx stones, and other gems to be set in the ephod and in the breastpiece.

I do not condone the use of rigged scales, or a bag of deceptive weights. ¹ 

Honest scales and balances ¹  are from the Lord; all the weights ²  in the bag are his handiwork.

“You are to take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel, ¹ 

By royal order ¹  they supplied large valuable stones in order to build the temple’s foundation with chiseled stone.

The foundation was made of large valuable stones, measuring either 15 feet or 12 feet. ¹ 

For you will have a pact with the stones ¹  of the field, and the wild animals ²  will be at peace ³  with you.

Arrows ¹  do not make it flee; slingstones become like chaff to it.

So I have made every effort ¹  to provide what is needed for the temple of my God, including the gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, ²  as well as a large amount of onyx, settings of antimony and other stones, all kinds of precious stones, and alabaster.

They set the onyx stones in gold filigree settings, engraved as with the engravings of a seal ¹  with the names of the sons of Israel. ² 

He put ¹  them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as stones of memorial for the Israelites, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

You must have honest balances, ¹  honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin. ²  I am the Lord your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt.

David ordered the resident foreigners in the land of Israel to be called together. He appointed some of them to be stonecutters to chisel stones for the building of God’s temple.

They gave money to the craftsmen and builders to buy chiseled stone and wood for the braces and rafters of the buildings that the kings of Judah had allowed to fall into disrepair. ¹ 

But you have been thrown out of your grave like a shoot that is thrown away. ¹  You lie among ²  the slain, among those who have been slashed by the sword, among those headed for ³  the stones of the pit, ⁴  as if you were a mangled corpse. ⁵ 

Tell the ones who coat it with whitewash that it will fall. When there is a deluge of rain, hailstones ¹  will fall and a violent wind will break out. ² 

I placed you there with an anointed ¹  guardian ²  cherub; ³  you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked about amidst fiery stones.

In the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence, ¹  and you sinned; so I defiled you and banished you ²  from the mountain of God – the guardian cherub expelled you ³  from the midst of the stones of fire.
