There are ¹  three gates on the east side, three gates on the north side, three gates on the south side and three gates on the west side. ² 

But at his gate lay ¹  a poor man named Lazarus ²  whose body was covered with sores, ³ 

When he knocked at the door of the outer gate, a slave girl named Rhoda answered. ¹ 

When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she did not open the gate, but ran back in and told ¹  them ²  that Peter was standing at the gate.

It has ¹  a massive, high wall ²  with twelve gates, ³  with twelve angels at the gates, and the names of the twelve tribes of the nation of Israel ⁴  are written on the gates. ⁵ 

And the twelve gates are twelve pearls – each one of the gates is made from just one pearl! The ¹  main street ²  of the city is pure gold, like transparent glass.

Its gates will never be closed during the day ¹  (and ²  there will be no night there). ³ 

When ¹  he went out to the gateway, another slave girl ²  saw him and said to the people there, “This man was with Jesus the Nazarene.”

The priest of the temple ¹  of Zeus, ²  located just outside the city, brought bulls ³  and garlands ⁴  to the city gates; he and the crowds wanted to offer sacrifices to them. ⁵ 

The angel ¹  who spoke to me had a golden measuring rod with which to measure the city and its foundation stones and wall.

Now while Peter was puzzling over ¹  what the vision he had seen could signify, the men sent by Cornelius had learned where Simon’s house was ²  and approached ³  the gate.

Blessed are those who wash their robes so they can have access ¹  to the tree of life and can enter into the city by the gates.
