TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Yesaya 13:20

Konteks

13:20 No one will live there again;

no one will ever reside there again. 1

No bedouin 2  will camp 3  there,

no shepherds will rest their flocks 4  there.

Yesaya 47:13

Konteks

47:13 You are tired out from listening to so much advice. 5

Let them take their stand –

the ones who see omens in the sky,

who gaze at the stars,

who make monthly predictions –

let them rescue you from the disaster that is about to overtake you! 6

Yesaya 55:2

Konteks

55:2 Why pay money for something that will not nourish you? 7

Why spend 8  your hard-earned money 9  on something that will not satisfy?

Listen carefully 10  to me and eat what is nourishing! 11

Enjoy fine food! 12

Yesaya 64:7

Konteks

64:7 No one invokes 13  your name,

or makes an effort 14  to take hold of you.

For you have rejected us 15

and handed us over to our own sins. 16

Yesaya 66:5

Konteks

66:5 Hear the word of the Lord,

you who respect what he has to say! 17

Your countrymen, 18  who hate you

and exclude you, supposedly for the sake of my name,

say, “May the Lord be glorified,

then we will witness your joy.” 19

But they will be put to shame.

[13:20]  1 tn Heb “she will not be inhabited forever, and she will not be dwelt in to generation and generation (i.e., forever).” The Lord declares that Babylon, personified as a woman, will not be inhabited. In other words, her people will be destroyed and the Chaldean empire will come to a permanent end.

[13:20]  2 tn Or “Arab” (NAB, NASB, NIV); cf. CEV, NLT “nomads.”

[13:20]  3 tn יַהֵל (yahel) is probably a corrupted form of יֶאֱהַל (yeehal). See GKC 186 §68.k.

[13:20]  4 tn The words “their flocks” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The Hebrew text does not supply the object here, but see Jer 33:12.

[47:13]  5 tn Heb “you are tired because of the abundance of your advice.”

[47:13]  6 tn Heb “let them stand and rescue you – the ones who see omens in the sky, who gaze at the stars, who make known by months – from those things which are coming upon you.”

[55:2]  7 tn Heb “for what is not food.”

[55:2]  8 tn The interrogative particle and the verb “spend” are understood here by ellipsis (note the preceding line).

[55:2]  9 tn Heb “your labor,” which stands by metonymy for that which one earns.

[55:2]  10 tn The infinitive absolute follows the imperative and lends emphasis to the exhortation.

[55:2]  11 tn Heb “good” (so NASB, NIV, NRSV).

[55:2]  12 tn Heb “Let your appetite delight in fine food.”

[55:2]  sn Nourishing, fine food here represents the blessings God freely offers. These include forgiveness, a new covenantal relationship with God, and national prominence (see vv. 3-6).

[64:7]  13 tn Or “calls out in”; NASB, NIV, NRSV “calls on.”

[64:7]  14 tn Or “rouses himself”; NASB “arouses himself.”

[64:7]  15 tn Heb “for you have hidden your face from us.”

[64:7]  16 tc The Hebrew text reads literally, “and you caused us to melt in the hand of our sin.” The verb וַתְּמוּגֵנוּ (vattÿmugenu) is a Qal preterite 2nd person masculine singular with a 1st person common plural suffix from the root מוּג (mug, “melt”). However, elsewhere the Qal of this verb is intransitive. If the verbal root מוּג (mug) is retained here, the form should be emended to a Polel pattern (וַתְּמֹגְגֵנוּ, vattÿmogÿgenu). The translation assumes an emendation to וַתְּמַגְּנֵנוּ (vattÿmaggÿnenu, “and you handed us over”). This form is a Piel preterite 2nd person masculine singular with a 1st person common plural suffix from the verbal root מִגֵּן (miggen, “hand over, surrender”; see HALOT 545 s.v. מגן and BDB 171 s.v. מָגָן). The point is that God has abandoned them to their sinful ways and no longer seeks reconciliation.

[66:5]  17 tn Heb “who tremble at his word.”

[66:5]  18 tn Heb “brothers” (so NASB, NIV); NRSV “Your own people”; NLT “Your close relatives.”

[66:5]  19 tn Or “so that we might witness your joy.” The point of this statement is unclear.
