Yehezkiel 16:31

Konteks
16:31 When you built your chamber at the head of every street and put up your pavilion in every public square, you were not like a prostitute, because you scoffed at payment. 6

Yehezkiel 16:42

Konteks

Yehezkiel 23:37

Konteks
23:37 For they have committed adultery and blood is on their hands. They have committed adultery with their idols, and their sons, whom they bore to me, 14  they have passed through the fire as food to their idols. 15

Yehezkiel 25:16-17

Konteks
25:16 So this is what the sovereign Lord says: Take note, I am about to stretch out my hand against the Philistines. I will kill 16  the Cherethites 17  and destroy those who remain on the seacoast. 25:17 I will exact great vengeance upon them with angry rebukes. 18  Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I exact my vengeance upon them.’”

[3:23]  1 tn Or “canal.”

[4:6]  2 sn The number 40 may refer in general to the period of Judah’s exile using the number of years Israel was punished in the wilderness. In this case, however, one would need to translate, “you will bear the punishment of the house of Judah.”

[7:2]  3 tn Or “earth.” Elsewhere the expression “four corners of the earth” figuratively refers to the whole earth (Isa 11:12).

[7:8]  4 tn The expression “to pour out rage” also occurs in Ezek 9:8; 14:19; 20:8, 13, 21; 22:31; 30:15; 36:18.

[11:11]  5 tn The Hebrew text does not have the negative particle, but it is implied. The negative particle in the previous line does double duty here.

[16:31]  6 tn The Hebrew term, which also occurs in vv. 34 and 41 of this chapter, always refers to the payment of a prostitute (Deut 23:19; Isa 23:17; Hos 9:1; Mic 1:7).

[18:13]  7 tn Heb “be put to death.” The translation follows an alternative reading that appears in several ancient textual witnesses.

[18:13]  8 tn Heb “his blood will be upon him.”

[22:3]  9 tn Heb “her time”; this refers to the time of impending judgment (see the note on “doom” in v. 4).

[23:10]  10 tn Heb “name.”

[23:17]  11 tn Heb “The sons of Babel came to her on a bed of love.”

[23:17]  12 tn Heb “her soul.”

[23:32]  13 sn The image of a deep and wide cup suggests the degree of punishment; it will be extensive and leave the victim helpless.

[23:37]  14 sn The Lord speaks here in the role of the husband of the sisters.

[23:37]  15 tn Heb “they have passed to them for food.” The verb is commonly taken to refer to passing children through fire, especially as an offering to the pagan god Molech. See Jer 32:35.

[25:16]  16 tn In Hebrew the verb “and I will cut off” sounds like its object, “the Cherethites,” and draws attention to the statement.

[25:16]  17 sn This is a name for the Philistines, many of whom migrated to Palestine from Crete.

[25:17]  18 tn Heb “with acts of punishment of anger.”

[29:20]  19 tn Heb “for which he worked,” referring to the assault on Tyre (v. 18).

[31:11]  20 tn Heb “acting he has acted with regard to it.” The infinitive absolute precedes the main verb to emphasize the certainty and decisiveness of the action depicted.

[33:9]  21 tn Heb “from his way to turn from it.”

[33:9]  22 tn Heb “and he does not turn from his way.”

[36:31]  23 tn Heb “ways.”

[36:32]  24 tn Heb “Let it be known.”

[39:25]  25 tn Heb “cause to return.”

[40:6]  26 tn The Hebrew text adds “the one threshold 10½ feet deep.” This is probably an accidental duplication of what precedes. See D. I. Block, Ezekiel (NICOT), 2:517.

[42:7]  27 tn Heb “fifty cubits” (i.e., 26.25 meters).

[42:12]  28 tc The MT apparently evidences dittography, repeating most of the last word of the previous verse: “and like the openings of.”
