Konteks
2:6 But you, son of man, do not fear them, and do not fear their words – even though briers 1  and thorns 2  surround you and you live among scorpions – do not fear their words and do not be terrified of the looks they give you, 3  for they are a rebellious house!

Yehezkiel 5:11

Yehezkiel 8:17

Konteks

8:17 He said to me, “Do you see, son of man? Is it a trivial thing that the house of Judah commits these abominations they are practicing here? For they have filled the land with violence and provoked me to anger still further. Look, they are putting the branch to their nose! 6

Yehezkiel 17:16

Yehezkiel 28:18

Konteks

Yehezkiel 32:24-25

Konteks

Now they will bear their shame with those who descend to the pit. 32:25 Among the dead they have made a bed for her, along with all her hordes around her grave. 8  All of them are uncircumcised, killed by the sword, for their terror had spread in the land of the living. [2:6]  1 tn The Hebrew term occurs only here in the OT.

[2:6]  2 tn The Hebrew term is found elsewhere in the OT only in Ezek 28:24.

[2:6]  sn Here thorns may be a figure for hostility (Ezek 28:24; Mic 7:4).

[2:6]  3 tn Heb “of their faces.”

[5:11]  4 tn The meaning of the Hebrew term is primarily emotional: “to pity,” which in context implies an action, as in being moved by pity in order to spare them from the horror of their punishment.

[6:11]  5 sn By the sword and by famine and by pestilence. A similar trilogy of punishments is mentioned in Lev 26:25-26. See also Jer 14:12; 21:9; 27:8, 13; 29:18).

[8:17]  6 tn It is not clear what the practice of “holding a branch to the nose” indicates. A possible parallel is the Syrian relief of a king holding a flower to his nose as he worships the stars (ANEP 281). See L. C. Allen, Ezekiel (WBC), 1:145-46. The LXX glosses the expression as “Behold, they are like mockers.”

[17:16]  7 tn Heb “place.”

[32:25]  8 tn Heb “around him her graves,” but the expression is best emended to read “around her grave” (see vv. 23-24).
