3:21 But now ¹  apart from the law the righteousness of God (which is attested by the law and the prophets) ²  has been disclosed –

Motivation to Godly Conduct

13:11 And do this ⁶  because we know ⁷  the time, that it is already the hour for us to awake from sleep, for our salvation is now nearer than when we became believers.

[3:21]  ¹ tn Νυνὶ δέ (Nuni de, “But now”) could be understood as either (1) logical or (2) temporal in force, but most recent interpreters take it as temporal, referring to a new phase in salvation history.

[3:21]  ² tn Grk “being witnessed by the law and the prophets,” a remark which is virtually parenthetical to Paul’s argument.

[7:5]  ³ tn That is, before we were in Christ.

[7:5]  ⁴ tn Or “sinful passions.”

[7:5]  ⁵ tn Grk “our members”; the words “of our body” have been supplied to clarify the meaning.

[13:11]  ⁶ tn Grk “and this,” probably referring to the command to love (13:8-10); hence, “do” is implied from the previous verses.

[13:11]  ⁷ tn The participle εἰδότες (eidotes) has been translated as a causal adverbial participle.
