1:14 Joy and gladness will come ¹  to you, and many will rejoice at ²  his birth, ³

10:12 I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom ⁴  than for that town! ⁵

[1:14]  ² tn Or “because of.”

[1:14]  ³ tn “At his birth” is more precise as the grammatical subject (1:58), though “at his coming” is a possible force, since it is his mission, as the following verses note, that will really bring joy.

[10:12]  ⁴ sn The allusion to Sodom, the most wicked of OT cities from Gen 19:1-29, shows that to reject the current message is even more serious than the worst sins of the old era and will result in more severe punishment. The noun Sodom is in emphatic position in the Greek text.

[10:12]  ⁵ tn Or “city.”
