Konteks20:23 You must not make gods of silver alongside me, 1 nor make gods of gold for yourselves. 2
Keluaran 34:14
Konteks34:14 For you must not worship 3 any other god, 4 for the Lord, whose name 5 is Jealous, is a jealous God.
Ulangan 6:14
Konteks6:14 You must not go after other gods, those 6 of the surrounding peoples,
[20:23] 1 tn The direct object of the verb must be “gods of silver.” The prepositional phrase modifies the whole verse to say that these gods would then be alongside the one true God.
[20:23] 2 tn Heb “neither will you make for you gods of gold.”
[20:23] sn U. Cassuto explains that by the understanding of parallelism each of the halves apply to the whole verse, so that “with me” and “for you” concern gods of silver or gods of gold (Exodus, 255).
[34:14] 4 sn In Exod 20:3 it was “gods.”
[34:14] 5 sn Here, too, the emphasis on God’s being a jealous God is repeated (see Exod 20:5). The use of “name” here is to stress that this is his nature, his character.
[6:14] 6 tn Heb “from the gods.” The demonstrative pronoun has been used in the translation for stylistic reasons to avoid redundancy.
