[8:7]  1 tn Heb “and it went out, going out and returning.” The Hebrew verb יָצָא (yatsa’), translated here “flying,” is modified by two infinitives absolute indicating that the raven went back and forth.

[21:22]  2 sn God is with you. Abimelech and Phicol recognized that Abraham enjoyed special divine provision and protection.

[27:18]  3 tn Heb “and he said”; the referent (Isaac) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[42:4]  9 tn The Hebrew noun אָסוֹן (’ason) is a rare word meaning “accident, harm.” Apart from its use in these passages it occurs in Exodus 21:22-23 of an accident to a pregnant woman. The term is a rather general one, but Jacob was no doubt thinking of his loss of Joseph.
