[3:10]  1 tn Heb “and he said.”

[3:10]  2 tn Heb “your sound.” If one sees a storm theophany here (see the note on the word “time” in v. 8), then one could translate, “your powerful voice.”

[17:15]  3 tn Heb “[As for] Sarai your wife, you must not call her name Sarai, for Sarah [will be] her name.”

[17:15]  4 sn Sarah. The name change seems to be a dialectical variation, both spellings meaning “princess” or “queen.” Like the name Abram, the name Sarai symbolized the past. The new name Sarah, like the name Abraham, would be a reminder of what God intended to do for Sarah in the future.

[26:2]  5 sn Do not go down to Egypt. The words echo Gen 12:10, which reports that “Abram went down to Egypt,” but state the opposite.

[26:2]  6 tn Heb “say to you.”

[30:2]  7 tn Heb “and the anger of Jacob was hot.”

[30:2]  8 tn Heb “who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb.”

[31:28]  9 tn Heb “my sons and my daughters.” Here “sons” refers to “grandsons,” and has been translated “grandchildren” since at least one granddaughter, Dinah, was involved. The order has been reversed in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[41:39]  10 tn Heb “as discerning and wise.” The order has been rearranged in the translation for stylistic reasons.
