1:10 God called the dry ground “land” ¹  and the gathered waters he called “seas.” God saw that it was good.

[1:10]  ¹ tn Heb “earth,” but here the term refers to the dry ground as opposed to the sea.

[14:3]  ² tn Heb “all these,” referring only to the last five kings named. The referent has been specified as “these last five kings” in the translation for clarity.

[14:3]  ³ tn The Hebrew verb used here means “to join together; to unite; to be allied.” It stresses close associations, especially of friendships, marriages, or treaties.

[14:3]  ⁴ sn The Salt Sea is the older name for the Dead Sea.

[49:13]  ⁵ tn The verb שָׁכַן (shakhan) means “to settle,” but not necessarily as a permanent dwelling place. The tribal settlements by the sea would have been temporary and not the tribe’s territory.
