11:3 So Jephthah left ¹  his half-brothers ²  and lived in the land of Tob. Lawless men joined Jephthah’s gang and traveled with him. ³ 

Hakim-hakim 11:7

11:7 Jephthah said to the leaders of Gilead, “But you hated me and made me leave ⁴  my father’s house. Why do you come to me now, when you are in trouble?”

Hakim-hakim 14:13

14:13 But if you cannot solve it, ⁵  you will give me thirty linen robes and thirty sets of clothes.” They said to him, “Let us hear your riddle.” ⁶

Civil War Breaks Out

20:1 All the Israelites from Dan to Beer Sheba ⁷  and from the land of Gilead ⁸  left their homes ⁹  and assembled together ¹⁰  before the Lord at Mizpah.

[11:3]  ³ tn Heb “Empty men joined themselves to Jephthah and went out with him.”

[20:1]  ⁷ sn Dan was located in the far north of the country, while Beer Sheba was located in the far south. This encompassed all the territory of the land of Canaan occupied by the Israelites.

[20:1]  ⁸ sn The land of Gilead was on the eastern side of the Jordan River.

[20:1]  ⁹ tn Heb “went out.”

[20:1]  ¹⁰ tn Heb “and the assembly was convened as one man.”
