2:19 So Bathsheba visited King Solomon to speak to him on Adonijah’s behalf. The king got up to greet 1  her, bowed to her, and then sat on his throne. He ordered a throne to be brought for the king’s mother, 2  and she sat at his right hand.

[14:15]  sn Asherah was a leading deity of the Canaanite pantheon, wife/sister of El and goddess of fertility. She was commonly worshiped at shrines in or near groves of evergreen trees, or, failing that, at places marked by wooden poles. These were to be burned or cut down (Deut 12:3; 16:21; Judg 6:25, 28, 30; 2 Kgs 18:4).

[16:2]  8 tn The Hebrew text has “because” at the beginning of the sentence. In the Hebrew text vv. 2-3 are one sentence comprised of a causal clause giving the reason for divine punishment (v. 2) and the main clause announcing the punishment (v. 3). The translation divides this sentence for stylistic reasons.

[16:2]  9 tn Heb “walked in the way of Jeroboam.”

[16:2]  10 tn Heb “angering me by their sins.”
