Solomon Gathers Building Materials for the Temple

5:1 (5:15) ²  King Hiram of Tyre ³  sent messengers ⁴  to Solomon when he heard that he had been anointed king in his father’s place. (Hiram had always been an ally of David.)

5:7 When Hiram heard Solomon’s message, he was very happy. He said, “The Lord is worthy of praise today because he ⁵  has given David a wise son to rule over this great nation.” 5:8 Hiram then sent this message to Solomon: “I received ⁶  the message you sent to me. I will give you all the cedars and evergreens you need. ⁷

9:25 Three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings ⁸  on the altar he had built for the Lord, burning incense along with them before the Lord. He made the temple his official worship place. ⁹

16:19 This happened because of the sins he committed. He did evil in the sight of ¹⁵  the Lord and followed in Jeroboam’s footsteps and encouraged Israel to continue sinning. ¹⁶

16:26 He followed in the footsteps of Jeroboam son of Nebat and encouraged Israel to sin; ¹⁷  they angered the Lord God of Israel with their worthless idols. ¹⁸

18:40 Elijah told them, “Seize the prophets of Baal! Don’t let even one of them escape!” So they seized them, and Elijah led them down to the Kishon Valley and executed ¹⁹  them there.
