8:28 But respond favorably to ¹  your servant’s prayer and his request for help, O Lord my God. Answer ²  the desperate prayer ³  your servant is presenting to you ⁴  today. 8:29 Night and day may you watch over this temple, the place where you promised you would live. ⁵  May you answer your servant’s prayer for this place. ⁶

Daniel 9:17-18

[9:17]  ¹⁵ tn Heb “for the sake of my Lord.” Theodotion has “for your sake.” Cf. v. 19.

[9:18]  ¹⁶ tn Heb “turn your ear.”

[9:18]  ¹⁷ tn Heb “desolations.” The term refers here to the ruined condition of Judah’s towns.

[9:18]  ¹⁸ tn Heb “over which your name is called.” Cf. v. 19. This expression implies that God is the owner of his city, Jerusalem. Note the use of the idiom in 2 Sam 12:28; Isa 4:1; Amos 9:12.

[9:18]  ¹⁹ tn Heb “praying our supplications before you.”
