14:5 But the Lord had told Ahijah, “Look, Jeroboam’s wife is coming to find out from you what will happen to her son, for he is sick. Tell her so-and-so. 1  When she comes, she will be in a disguise.”

Markus 11:2-6

11:2 and said to them, “Go to the village ahead of you. 2  As soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there that has never been ridden. 3  Untie it and bring it here. 11:3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it 4  and will send it back here soon.’” 11:4 So 5  they went and found a colt tied at a door, outside in the street, and untied it. 11:5 Some people standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 11:6 They replied as Jesus had told them, and the bystanders 6  let them go.

14:13 He sent two of his disciples and told them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar 7  of water will meet you. Follow him. 14:14 Wherever he enters, tell the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’ 14:15 He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.” 14:16 So 8  the disciples left, went 9  into the city, and found things just as he had told them, 10  and they prepared the Passover.

[14:5]  1 sn Tell her so-and-so. Certainly the Lord gave Ahijah a specific message to give to Jeroboam’s wife (see vv. 6-16), but the author of Kings here condenses the Lord’s message with the words “so-and-so.” For dramatic effect he prefers to have us hear the message from Ahijah’s lips as he speaks to the king’s wife.

[11:2]  2 tn Grk “the village lying before you” (BDAG 530 s.v. κατέναντι 2.b).

[11:2]  3 tn Grk “a colt tied there on which no one of men has ever sat.”

[11:3]  4 sn The custom called angaria allowed the impressment of animals for service to a significant figure.
