You must not build a temple to honor me, 6  for you have spilled a great deal of blood on the ground before me. 22:9 Look, you will have a son, who will be a peaceful man. 7  I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. 8  Indeed, Solomon 9  will be his name; I will give Israel peace and quiet during his reign. 10

1 Tawarikh 28:2-4

[17:12]  1 tn Heb “and I will establish his throne permanently.”

[17:13]  2 sn The one who ruled before you is a reference to Saul, from whom the kingdom was taken and given to David.

[22:7]  3 tn Heb “I was with my heart.”

[22:7]  4 tn Heb “for the name of.”

[22:8]  5 tn Heb “and the word of the Lord was [i.e., came] to me saying.”

[22:8]  6 tn Heb “for my name.”

[22:9]  7 tn Heb “man of rest.”

[22:9]  8 tn Heb “his enemies all around.”

[22:9]  9 sn The name Solomon (שְׁלֹמֹה, shÿlomoh) sounds like (and may be derived from) the Hebrew word for “peace” (שָׁלוֹם, shalom).

[22:9]  10 tn Heb “in his days.”

[28:2]  11 tn Heb “I, with my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord and for a stool of the feet of our God.”

[28:3]  12 tn Heb “for my name.”

[28:4]  13 tn Heb “out of all the house of my father to become king over all Israel permanently.”

[28:4]  14 tn Or “for.”

[28:4]  15 tn Heb “and among the sons of my father he desired to make me king over all Israel.”

[20:22]  16 tn Grk “And answering, Jesus said.” This is somewhat redundant in English and has been simplified in the translation. Here δέ (de) has not been translated.

[20:22]  17 tn The verbs in Greek are plural here, indicating that Jesus is not answering the mother but has turned his attention directly to the two disciples.

[20:22]  18 tc Most mss (C W 33 Ï, as well as some versional and patristic authorities) in addition have “or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” But this is surely due to a recollection of the fuller version of this dominical saying found in Mark 10:38. The same mss also have the Lord’s response, “and you will be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized” in v. 23, again due to the parallel in Mark 10:39. The shorter reading, in both v. 22 and v. 23, is to be preferred both because it better explains the rise of the other reading and is found in superior witnesses (א B D L Z Θ 085 Ë1,13 pc lat, as well as other versional and patristic authorities).

[20:22]  19 sn No more naïve words have ever been spoken as those found here coming from James and John, “We are able.” They said it with such confidence and ease, yet they had little clue as to what they were affirming. In the next sentence Jesus confirms that they will indeed suffer for his name.

[20:2]  20 tn Grk “agreeing with the workers for a denarius a day.”

[20:2]  sn The standard wage was a denarius a day. The denarius was a silver coin worth about a day’s wage for a laborer in Palestine in the 1st century.
