And you were at one time strangers and enemies in your ¹  minds ²  as expressed through ³  your evil deeds,

And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds,

And you were once alienated and hostile in mind because of your evil actions.

And _although you were formerly alienated_ and enemies in attitude, because of your evil deeds,

Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behaviour.

And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds,

And you who were once estranged and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds,

Formerly you yourselves were alienated from God, his enemies in heart and mind, as your evil deeds showed. But now by Christ's death in his body of flesh and blood God has reconciled you to himself, so that he may bring you into his own presence, holy and without blame or blemish.
