[1:31] 1 tn The Hebrew text again uses הִנֵּה (hinneh) for the sake of vividness. It is a particle that goes with the gesture of pointing, calling attention to something.
[5:24] 2 tn The Hebrew construction has the negative particle אֵין (’en, “there is not,” “there was not”) with a pronominal suffix, “he was not.” Instead of saying that Enoch died, the text says he no longer was present.
[5:24] 3 sn The text simply states that God took Enoch. Similar language is used of Elijah’s departure from this world (see 2 Kgs 2:10). The text implies that God overruled death for this man who walked with him.

[10:16] 7 sn The Girgashites are an otherwise unknown Canaanite tribe, though the name is possibly mentioned in Ugaritic texts (see G. J. Wenham, Genesis [WBC], 1:226).
[10:17] 8 sn The Hivites were Canaanite tribes of a Hurrian origin.
[10:17] 9 sn The Arkites lived in Arka, a city in Lebanon, north of Sidon.
[10:17] 10 sn The Sinites lived in Sin, another town in Lebanon.
[29:6] 11 tn Heb “and he said to them, ‘Is there peace to him?’”
[30:27] 13 tn The words “please stay here” have been supplied in the translation for clarification and for stylistic reasons.
