49:10 Surely 1 one sees 2 that even wise people die; 3
fools and spiritually insensitive people all pass away 4
and leave their wealth to others. 5
49:11 Their grave becomes their permanent residence,
their eternal dwelling place. 6
They name their lands after themselves, 7
49:12 but, despite their wealth, people do not last, 8
they are like animals 9 that perish. 10
49:13 This is the destiny of fools, 11
and of those who approve of their philosophy. 12 (Selah)
49:14 They will travel to Sheol like sheep, 13
with death as their shepherd. 14
The godly will rule 15 over them when the day of vindication dawns; 16
Sheol will consume their bodies and they will no longer live in impressive houses. 17
49:15 But 18 God will rescue 19 my life 20 from the power 21 of Sheol;
certainly 22 he will pull me to safety. 23 (Selah)
49:16 Do not be afraid when a man becomes rich 24
and his wealth multiplies! 25
49:17 For he will take nothing with him when he dies;
his wealth will not follow him down into the grave. 26
49:18 He pronounces this blessing on himself while he is alive:
“May men praise you, for you have done well!”
49:19 But he will join his ancestors; 27
they will never again see the light of day. 28
