137:7 Remember, O Lord, what the Edomites did
on the day Jerusalem fell. 1
They said, “Tear it down, tear it down, 2
right to its very foundation!”
51:35 The person who lives in Zion says,
“May Babylon pay for the violence done to me and to my relatives.”
Jerusalem says,
“May those living in Babylonia pay for the bloodshed of my people.” 3
1:10 “Because 4 you violently slaughtered 5 your relatives, 6 the people of Jacob, 7
shame will cover you, and you will be destroyed 8 forever.
1:11 You stood aloof 9 while strangers took his army 10 captive,
and foreigners advanced to his gates. 11
When they cast lots 12 over Jerusalem, 13
you behaved as though you were in league 14 with them.
1:12 You should not 15 have gloated 16 when your relatives 17 suffered calamity. 18
You should not have rejoiced over the people of Judah when they were destroyed. 19
You should not have boasted 20 when they suffered adversity. 21
1:13 You should not have entered the city 22 of my people when they experienced distress. 23
You should not have joined 24 in gloating over their misfortune when they suffered distress. 25
You should not have looted 26 their wealth when they endured distress. 27
1:14 You should not have stood at the fork in the road 28 to slaughter 29 those trying to escape. 30
You should not have captured their refugees when they suffered adversity. 31
1:15 “For the day of the Lord 32 is approaching 33 for all the nations! 34
Just as you have done, so it will be done to you.
You will get exactly what your deeds deserve. 35
1:16 For just as you 36 have drunk 37 on my holy mountain,
so all the nations will drink continually. 38
They will drink, and they will gulp down;
they will be as though they had never been.
1:2 The Lord says, 39 “Look! I will 40 make you a weak nation; 41
you will be greatly despised!
1:6 How the people of Esau 42 will be thoroughly plundered! 43
Their 44 hidden valuables will be ransacked! 45
