Mazmur 78:70-72

78:70 He chose David, his servant,

and took him from the sheepfolds.

78:71 He took him away from following the mother sheep,¹

and made him the shepherd of Jacob, his people,

and of Israel, his chosen nation.²

78:72 David³ cared for them with pure motives;⁴

he led them with skill.⁵

Yesaya 40:11

40:11 Like a shepherd he tends his flock;

he gathers up the lambs with his arm;

he carries them close to his heart;⁶

he leads the ewes along.

Yeremia 3:15

3:15 I will give you leaders⁷ who will be faithful to me.⁸ They will lead you with knowledge and insight.

23:1 The Lord says,⁹ “The leaders of my people are sure to be judged.¹⁰ They were supposed to watch over my people like shepherds watch over their sheep. But they are causing my people to be destroyed and scattered.¹¹

Mikha 3:11

3:11 Her¹² leaders take bribes when they decide legal cases,¹³

her priests proclaim rulings for profit,

and her prophets read omens for pay.

Yet they claim to trust¹⁴ the Lord and say,

“The Lord is among us.¹⁵

Disaster will not overtake¹⁶ us!”
