13:18 Thus Jesus 6 asked, 7 “What is the kingdom of God 8 like? 9 To 10 what should I compare it? 13:19 It is like a mustard seed 11 that a man took and sowed 12 in his garden. It 13 grew and became a tree, 14 and the wild birds 15 nested in its branches.” 16
13:20 Again 17 he said, “To what should I compare the kingdom of God? 18 13:21 It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with 19 three measures 20 of flour until all the dough had risen.” 21
13:22 Then 22 Jesus 23 traveled throughout 24 towns 25 and villages, teaching and making his way toward 26 Jerusalem. 27 13:23 Someone 28 asked 29 him, “Lord, will only a few 30 be saved?” So 31 he said to them, 13:24 “Exert every effort 32 to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. 13:25 Once 33 the head of the house 34 gets up 35 and shuts the door, then you will stand outside and start to knock on the door and beg him, ‘Lord, 36 let us in!’ 37 But he will answer you, 38 ‘I don’t know where you come from.’ 39 13:26 Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’ 40 13:27 But 41 he will reply, 42 ‘I don’t know where you come from! 43 Go away from me, all you evildoers!’ 44 13:28 There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth 45 when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, 46 and all the prophets in the kingdom of God 47 but you yourselves thrown out. 48 13:29 Then 49 people 50 will come from east and west, and from north and south, and take their places at the banquet table 51 in the kingdom of God. 52 13:30 But 53 indeed, 54 some are last 55 who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”
13:31 At that time, 56 some Pharisees 57 came up and said to Jesus, 58 “Get away from here, 59 because Herod 60 wants to kill you.” 13:32 But 61 he said to them, “Go 62 and tell that fox, 63 ‘Look, I am casting out demons and performing healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day 64 I will complete my work. 65 13:33 Nevertheless I must 66 go on my way today and tomorrow and the next day, because it is impossible 67 that a prophet should be killed 68 outside Jerusalem.’ 69 13:34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, 70 you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! 71 How often I have longed 72 to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but 73 you would have none of it! 74 13:35 Look, your house is forsaken! 75 And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, ‘Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!’” 76
