18:12 Now while Gallio 1 was proconsul 2 of Achaia, 3 the Jews attacked Paul together 4 and brought him before the judgment seat, 5 18:13 saying, “This man is persuading 6 people to worship God in a way contrary to 7 the law!” 18:14 But just as Paul was about to speak, 8 Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of some crime or serious piece of villainy, 9 I would have been justified in accepting the complaint 10 of you Jews, 11 18:15 but since it concerns points of disagreement 12 about words and names and your own law, settle 13 it yourselves. I will not be 14 a judge of these things!” 18:16 Then he had them forced away 15 from the judgment seat. 16 18:17 So they all seized Sosthenes, the president of the synagogue, 17 and began to beat 18 him in front of the judgment seat. 19 Yet none of these things were of any concern 20 to Gallio.
18:18 Paul, after staying 21 many more days in Corinth, 22 said farewell to 23 the brothers and sailed away to Syria accompanied by 24 Priscilla and Aquila. 25 He 26 had his hair cut off 27 at Cenchrea 28 because he had made a vow. 29 18:19 When they reached Ephesus, 30 Paul 31 left Priscilla and Aquila 32 behind there, but he himself went 33 into the synagogue 34 and addressed 35 the Jews. 18:20 When they asked him to stay longer, he would not consent, 36 18:21 but said farewell to 37 them and added, 38 “I will come back 39 to you again if God wills.” 40 Then 41 he set sail from Ephesus, 18:22 and when he arrived 42 at Caesarea, 43 he went up and greeted 44 the church at Jerusalem 45 and then went down to Antioch. 46 18:23 After he spent 47 some time there, Paul left and went through the region of Galatia 48 and Phrygia, 49 strengthening all the disciples.
18:24 Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, arrived in Ephesus. 50 He was an eloquent speaker, 51 well-versed 52 in the scriptures. 18:25 He had been instructed in 53 the way of the Lord, and with great enthusiasm 54 he spoke and taught accurately the facts 55 about Jesus, although he knew 56 only the baptism of John. 18:26 He began to speak out fearlessly 57 in the synagogue, 58 but when Priscilla and Aquila 59 heard him, they took him aside 60 and explained the way of God to him more accurately. 18:27 When Apollos 61 wanted to cross over to Achaia, 62 the brothers encouraged 63 him 64 and wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived, he 65 assisted greatly those who had believed by grace, 18:28 for he refuted the Jews vigorously 66 in public debate, 67 demonstrating from the scriptures that the Christ 68 was Jesus. 69
