19:14 My kinsmen have failed me;

When they entered 5 Bethlehem, 6 the whole village was excited about their arrival. 7 The women of the village said, 8 “Can this be Naomi?” 9 1:20 But she replied 10 to them, 11 “Don’t call me ‘Naomi’! 12 Call me ‘Mara’ 13 because the Sovereign One 14 has treated me very harshly. 15 1:21 I left here full, 16 but the Lord has caused me to return empty-handed. 17 Why do you call me ‘Naomi,’ seeing that 18 the Lord has opposed me, 19 and the Sovereign One 20 has caused me to suffer?” 21

4:7 Her consecrated ones 22 were brighter than snow,
whiter than milk;
their bodies more ruddy than corals,
their hair 23 like lapis lazuli. 24

4:8 Now their appearance 25 is darker than soot;
they are not recognized in the streets.
Their skin has shriveled on their bones;
it is dried up, like tree bark.
