Yeremia 35:14

35:14 Jonadab son of Rechab ordered his descendants not to drink wine. His orders have been carried out.¹ To this day his descendants have drunk no wine because they have obeyed what their ancestor commanded them. But I² have spoken to you over and over again,³ but you have not obeyed me!

Yesaya 1:3

The Sacrilege of Priestly Service

1:6 “A son naturally honors his father and a slave respects⁶ his master. If I am your⁷ father, where is my honor? If I am your master, where is my respect? The Lord who rules over all asks you this, you priests who make light of my name! But you reply, ‘How have we made light of your name?’

Matius 11:28-30

11:28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 11:29 Take my yoke⁸ on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 11:30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load is not hard to carry.”

The Parable of the Compassionate Father

15:11 Then⁹ Jesus¹⁰ said, “A man had two sons. 15:12 The¹¹ younger of them said to his¹² father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate¹³ that will belong¹⁴ to me.’ So¹⁵ he divided his¹⁶ assets between them.¹⁷ 15:13 After¹⁸ a few days,¹⁹ the younger son gathered together all he had and left on a journey to a distant country, and there he squandered²⁰ his wealth²¹ with a wild lifestyle.

Lukas 15:28-30

15:28 But the older son²² became angry²³ and refused²⁴ to go in. His father came out and appealed to him, 15:29 but he answered²⁵ his father, ‘Look! These many years I have worked like a slave²⁶ for you, and I never disobeyed your commands. Yet²⁷ you never gave me even a goat²⁸ so that I could celebrate with my friends! 15:30 But when this son of yours²⁹ came back, who has devoured³⁰ your assets with prostitutes,³¹ you killed the fattened calf³² for him!’
