1:8 All this 1 monotony 2 is tiresome; no one can bear 3 to describe it: 4
The eye is never satisfied with seeing, nor is the ear ever content 5 with hearing.
5:10 The one who loves money 6 will never be satisfied with money, 7
he who loves wealth 8 will never be satisfied 9 with his 10 income.
This also is futile.
27:20 As 11 Death and Destruction are never satisfied, 12
so the eyes of a person 13 are never satisfied. 14
2:5 Indeed, wine will betray the proud, restless man! 15
His appetite 16 is as big as Sheol’s; 17
like death, he is never satisfied.
He gathers 18 all the nations;
he seizes 19 all peoples.
2:6 “But all these nations will someday taunt him 20
and ridicule him with proverbial sayings: 21
‘The one who accumulates what does not belong to him is as good as dead 22
(How long will this go on?) 23 –
he who gets rich by extortion!’ 24
2:7 Your creditors will suddenly attack; 25
those who terrify you will spring into action, 26
and they will rob you. 27
2:8 Because you robbed many countries, 28
all who are left among the nations 29 will rob you.
You have shed human blood
and committed violent acts against lands, cities, 30 and those who live in them.
2:9 The one who builds his house by unjust gain is as good as dead. 31
He does this so he can build his nest way up high
and escape the clutches of disaster. 32
2:1 I will stand at my watch post;
I will remain stationed on the city wall. 33
I will keep watching, so I can see what he says to me
and can know 34 how I should answer
when he counters my argument. 35
