Amsal 21:10-31

21:10 The appetite of the wicked desires evil;

his neighbor is shown no favor in his eyes.

21:11 When a scorner is punished, the naive becomes wise;

when a wise person is instructed, he gains knowledge.

21:12 The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked;

he overthrows the wicked to their ruin.

21:13 The one who shuts his ears 10  to the cry 11  of the poor,

he too will cry out and will not be answered. 12

21:14 A gift given 13  in secret subdues 14  anger,

and a bribe given secretly 15  subdues 16  strong wrath. 17

21:15 Doing 18  justice brings 19  joy to the righteous

and terror 20  to those who do evil.

21:16 The one who wanders 21  from the way of wisdom 22

will end up 23  in the company of the departed. 24

21:17 The one who loves 25  pleasure 26  will be 27  a poor person; 28

whoever loves wine and anointing oil 29  will not be rich.

21:18 The wicked become 30  a ransom 31  for the righteous,

and the faithless 32  are taken 33  in the place of the upright.

21:19 It is better to live 34  in a desert land 35

than with a quarrelsome and easily-provoked 36  woman.

21:20 There is desirable treasure and olive oil 37  in the dwelling of the wise,

but a foolish person 38  devours all he has. 39

21:21 The one who pursues righteousness and love 40

finds life, bounty, 41  and honor.

21:22 The wise person 42  can scale 43  the city of the mighty

and bring down the stronghold 44  in which they trust. 45

21:23 The one who guards his mouth and his tongue 46

keeps his life 47  from troubles. 48

21:24 A proud 49  and arrogant 50  person, whose name is “Scoffer,” 51

acts 52  with overbearing pride. 53

21:25 What the sluggard desires 54  will kill him, 55

for his hands 56  refuse to work.

21:26 All day long he craves greedily, 57

but the righteous gives and does not hold back. 58

21:27 The wicked person’s sacrifice 59  is an abomination;

how much more 60  when he brings it with evil intent! 61

21:28 A lying witness 62  will perish, 63

but the one who reports accurately speaks forever. 64

21:29 A wicked person 65  shows boldness with his face, 66

but as for the upright, 67  he discerns 68  his ways.

21:30 There is no wisdom and there is no understanding,

and there is no counsel against 69  the Lord. 70

21:31 A horse is prepared for the day of battle,

but the victory is from the Lord. 71
