21:10 The appetite 1 of the wicked desires 2 evil;
his neighbor is shown no favor 3 in his eyes.
21:11 When a scorner is punished, the naive 4 becomes wise;
when a wise person is instructed, 5 he gains knowledge.
21:12 The Righteous One 6 considers 7 the house 8 of the wicked;
he overthrows the wicked to their ruin. 9
21:13 The one who shuts his ears 10 to the cry 11 of the poor,
he too will cry out and will not be answered. 12
21:14 A gift given 13 in secret subdues 14 anger,
and a bribe given secretly 15 subdues 16 strong wrath. 17
21:15 Doing 18 justice brings 19 joy to the righteous
and terror 20 to those who do evil.
21:16 The one who wanders 21 from the way of wisdom 22
will end up 23 in the company of the departed. 24
21:17 The one who loves 25 pleasure 26 will be 27 a poor person; 28
whoever loves wine and anointing oil 29 will not be rich.
21:18 The wicked become 30 a ransom 31 for the righteous,
and the faithless 32 are taken 33 in the place of the upright.
21:19 It is better to live 34 in a desert land 35
than with a quarrelsome and easily-provoked 36 woman.
21:20 There is desirable treasure and olive oil 37 in the dwelling of the wise,
but a foolish person 38 devours all he has. 39
21:21 The one who pursues righteousness and love 40
finds life, bounty, 41 and honor.
21:22 The wise person 42 can scale 43 the city of the mighty
and bring down the stronghold 44 in which they trust. 45
21:23 The one who guards his mouth and his tongue 46
keeps his life 47 from troubles. 48
21:24 A proud 49 and arrogant 50 person, whose name is “Scoffer,” 51
acts 52 with overbearing pride. 53
21:25 What the sluggard desires 54 will kill him, 55
for his hands 56 refuse to work.
21:26 All day long he craves greedily, 57
but the righteous gives and does not hold back. 58
21:27 The wicked person’s sacrifice 59 is an abomination;
how much more 60 when he brings it with evil intent! 61
21:28 A lying witness 62 will perish, 63
but the one who reports accurately speaks forever. 64
21:29 A wicked person 65 shows boldness with his face, 66
but as for the upright, 67 he discerns 68 his ways.
21:30 There is no wisdom and there is no understanding,
and there is no counsel against 69 the Lord. 70
21:31 A horse is prepared for the day of battle,
but the victory is from the Lord. 71
