Abner Is Killed

3:22 Now David’s soldiers ¹  and Joab were coming back from a raid, bringing a great deal of plunder with them. Abner was no longer with David in Hebron, for David ²  had sent him away and he had left in peace.

2 Samuel 5:17

Conflict with the Philistines

5:17 When the Philistines heard that David had been designated ³  king over Israel, they all ⁴  went up to search for David. When David heard about it, he went down to the fortress.

2 Samuel 10:5

10:5 Messengers ⁵  told David what had happened, ⁶  so he summoned them, for the men were thoroughly humiliated. The king said, “Stay in Jericho ⁷  until your beards have grown again; then you may come back.”

10:17 When David was informed, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan River, ⁸  and came to Helam. The Arameans deployed their forces against David and fought with him.

Shimei Curses David and His Men

16:5 Then King David reached ⁹  Bahurim. There a man from Saul’s extended family named Shimei son of Gera came out, yelling curses as he approached. ¹⁰
