Kejadian 43:31

43:31 Then he washed his face and came out. With composure he said, “Set out the food.”

Yesaya 42:14

42:14 “I have been inactive for a long time;

I kept quiet and held back.

Like a woman in labor I groan;

I pant and gasp.

Yesaya 42:2

42:2 He will not cry out or shout;

he will not publicize himself in the streets.

1 Petrus 3:9

3:9 Do not return evil for evil or insult for insult, but instead bless others because you were called to inherit a blessing.

1 Petrus 3:15

3:15 But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess.

tn Heb “and he controlled himself and said.”

tn Heb “silent” (so NASB, NIV, TEV, NLT); CEV “have held my temper.”

sn The imagery depicts the Lord as a warrior who is eager to fight and can no longer hold himself back from the attack.

tn Heb “he will not cause his voice to be heard in the street.”

tn Grk “not returning…but blessing,” continuing the sense of command from the preceding.

tn The direct object “others” is omitted but implied in Greek, and must be supplied to suit English style.

tc Most later mss (P Ï) have θεόν (qeon, “God”) instead of Χριστόν (Criston; “Christ”) here. But Χριστόν is widely supported by excellent and early witnesses (Ì72 א A B C Ψ 33 1739 al latt sy co), and as a less common idiom better explains the rise of the other reading.

tn Or “sanctify Christ as Lord.”

tn Grk “the hope in you.”
