Titus 2:4-6

2:4 In this way they will train the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children, 2:5 to be self-controlled, pure, fulfilling their duties at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the message 10  of God may not be discredited. 11  2:6 Encourage younger men likewise to be self-controlled, 12

tn Grk “came for a testimony.”

tn Or “to bear witness.”

tn Grk “all.”

tn Grk “all.” The word “people” is not in the Greek text but is supplied for stylistic reasons and for clarity (cf. KJV “all men”).

tn Grk “whom Jesus,” but a repetition of the proper name (Jesus) here would be redundant in the English clause structure, so the pronoun (“he”) is substituted in the translation.

10 tn Grk “that they may train” (continuing the sentence of 2:3).

11 tn This verb, σωφρονίζω (swfronizw), denotes teaching in the sense of bringing people to their senses, showing what sound thinking is.

13 tn Or “sensible.”

14 tn Grk “domestic,” “keeping house.”

15 tn Or “word.”

16 tn Or “slandered.”

16 tn Or “sensible.”
