Hakim-hakim 1:17

1:17 The men of Judah went with their brothers the men of Simeon and defeated the Canaanites living in Zephath. They wiped out Zephath. So people now call the city Hormah.

Hakim-hakim 1:25

1:25 He showed them a secret entrance into the city, and they put the city to the sword. But they let the man and his extended family leave safely.

Hakim-hakim 6:4

6:4 They invaded the land and devoured its crops all the way to Gaza. They left nothing for the Israelites to eat, and they took away the sheep, oxen, and donkeys.

tn Heb “Judah went with Simeon, his brother.”

tn Heb “it”; the referent (the city of Zephath) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

sn The name Hormah (חָרְמָה, khormah) sounds like the Hebrew verb translated “wipe out” (חָרַם, kharam).

tn Heb “They encamped against them.”

tn Heb “destroyed.”

tn Heb “the crops of the land.”

tn Heb “They left no sustenance in Israel.”

tn The words “they took away” are supplied in the translation for clarification.
