42:5 I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,
but now my eye has seen you. 1
42:2 “I know that you can do all things;
no purpose of yours can be thwarted;
4:6 I have applied these things to myself and Apollos because of you, brothers and sisters, 2 so that through us you may learn “not to go beyond what is written,” so that none of you will be puffed up in favor of the one against the other.
1 sn This statement does not imply there was a vision. He is simply saying that this experience of God was real and personal. In the past his knowledge of God was what he had heard – hearsay. This was real.
2 tn Grk “brothers.” See note on the phrase “brothers and sisters” in 1:10.
