Sepanjang masa pemerintahannya yang lama sepanjang 55 tahun, Manasye menjerumuskan Yehuda ke dalam era penyembahan berhala yang tergelap. Raja jahat ini memandang rendah sekali kepada Allah Hizkia ayahnya. Ia menuntun umat Allah ke dalam kejahatan yang lebih besar daripada bangsa-bangsa kafir yang dibinasakan oleh Yosua. Mengapa Allah membiarkan Manasye mempengaruhi Yehuda melakukan kejahatan sehebat itu? Jawabannya: Allah tidak selalu menyingkirkan pemimpin fasik dari kedudukan mereka yang berpengaruh. Ia menganggap umat-Nya bertanggung jawab untuk menuntut pemimpin mereka menurut Firman Allah; Ia mengharapkan mereka menolak setiap orang yang tidak setia kepada ajaran Firman Allah sebagai pemimpin yang palsu. Dengan cara ini, Allah menguji kesetiaan umat-Nya kepada-Nya, kepada penyataan-Nya, dan kepada standar-standar-Nya yang kudus
