Yerusalem telah menjadi kota penuh kekerasan dan bermacam-macam kefasikan. Tidak ada lagi rasa hormat akan hal-hal yang kudus, keluarga, golongan miskin atau melarat. Kebejatan seksual merajalela, dan penipuan serta penyuapan adalah peristiwa biasa. Semua ini terjadi karena bangsa itu telah meninggalkan Allah dan Firman-Nya. Karena itu, Allah sedang menyerahkan kota tersebut kepada hukuman dan kebinasaan yang berat. Dewasa ini keadaan sosial dan rohani dari kota-kota di seluruh dunia mirip dengan keadaan Yerusalem kuno. Terkecuali kota-kota ini bertobat, mereka akan musnah seperti halnya Yerusalem. Bangsa-bangsa, kota-kota dan penduduk tidak dapat luput dari akibatnya jika mereka meremehkan Allah dan firman-Nya.
