Pasal-pasal ini ditulis selama tahun-tahun akhir hidup Yesaya. Allah menyatakan nubuat-nubuat ini supaya memberikan pengharapan dan penghiburan kepada umat-Nya selama mereka tertawan di Babel 150 tahun sesudah zaman Yesaya (lih. Yes 39:5-8); pasal-pasal ini penuh dengan penyataan nubuat mengenai Mesias yang akan datang dan kerajaan-Nya di bumi kelak. Beberapa peristiwa yang dinubuatkan digenapi berhubungan dengan tertawannya Yehuda oleh Babel dan pemulihannya. Banyak nubuat lain lebih khusus berhubungan dengan datangnya Yesus Kristus ke bumi, dan yang lain lagi masih menunggu penggenapan.
