Umat mohon, supaya Tuhan menghukum musuh-musuhnya dengan setimpal, Maz 83:10-16; maksud hukuman itu ialah: hendaknya bangsa-bangsa itu mengakui Allah Israel, Maz 83:16-18. Mazmur ini agaknya tidak berpikir kepada salah satu persekutuan tertentu yang diadakan bangsa-bangsa itu melawan Israel, tetapi yang tampil ialah genap sepuluh suku bangsa yang sejak dahulu sampai zaman belakangan tetap merupakan musuh utama umat Israel, bdk 2Ta 20:1 dst; Neh 2:19; 1Ma 5:3.
