17:6 Dalam tahun kesembilan zaman Hosea maka raja Asyur merebut Samaria. Ia mengangkut orang-orang Israel ke Asyur ke dalam pembuangan dan menyuruh mereka tinggal di Halah, di tepi sungai Habor, yakni sungai negeri Gozan, dan di kota-kota orang Madai.

Pada tahun 722 SM, setelah 210 tahun penyembahan berhala, pemberontakan rohani, dan kemerosotan moral, Allah memutuskan keruntuhan dan pembuangan bangsa Israel (yaitu, kesepuluh suku dari kerajaan utara). Perkembangan pesat dari kejahatan di antara umat Allah telah mencapai titik tidak bisa kembali; dosa mereka telah mencapai puncaknya. Satu-satunya tindakan yang bisa dilakukan Allah sekarang ialah menjatuhkan hukuman yang mencerai-beraikan bangsa itu; hanya kaum sisa yang percaya dan setia yang tertinggal untuk mengalami penggenapan janji-janji Allah (bd. Rom 9:27).
