2:8 "Aku telah mendengar pencelaan dari pihak Moab dan kata-kata nista dari pihak bani Amon, bagaimana mereka mencela umat-Ku dan membesarkan dirinya terhadap daerah umat-Ku itu. 2:9 Sebab itu, demi Aku yang hidup -- demikianlah firman TUHAN semesta alam, Allah Israel -- maka Moab akan menjadi seperti Sodom dan bani Amon seperti Gomora, yakni menjadi padang jeruju dan tempat penggalian garam dan tempat sunyi sepi sampai selama-lamanya. Sisa-sisa umat-Ku akan menjarah mereka dan yang masih tinggal dari bangsa-Ku itu akan memiliki mereka sebagai warisan." 2:10 Inilah yang menjadi bagian mereka sebagai ganti kecongkakan mereka, sebab mereka telah mencela dan membesarkan diri terhadap umat TUHAN semesta alam.

Dunia yang tidak percaya mencela dan mencemooh umat Allah, orang-orang yang mengabdi kepada standar-standar Firman-Nya yang benar dan kudus.

1) Perlakuan semacam ini tidak terelakkan di dalam dunia yang dikuasai Iblis dan dikuasai orang yang pikirannya telah dibutakan (bd. 2Kor 4:4; Ef 2:2-3; 4:18). Yesus sendiri mengalami cemoohan dan ejekan ketika di bumi (lih. Mat 27:39-44; bd. Mazm 69:11).
2) Penganiayaan orang benar tidak akan berlangsung selamanya. Allah telah menetapkan suatu hari ketika Ia akan membenarkan orang yang tetap setia kepada jalan-jalan-Nya dan akan mendatangkan hukuman adil atas mereka yang mencemooh orang percaya.
