22:1 Yosia berumur delapan tahun pada waktu ia menjadi raja dan tiga puluh satu tahun lamanya ia memerintah di Yerusalem. Nama ibunya ialah Yedida binti Adaya, dari Bozkat. 22:2 Ia melakukan apa yang benar di mata TUHAN dan hidup sama seperti Daud, bapa leluhurnya, dan tidak menyimpang ke kanan atau ke kiri. 22:3 Dalam tahun yang kedelapan belas zaman raja Yosia maka raja menyuruh Safan bin Azalya bin Mesulam, panitera itu, ke rumah TUHAN, katanya: 22:4 "Pergilah kepada imam besar Hilkia; suruhlah ia menyerahkan seluruh uang yang telah dibawa ke dalam rumah TUHAN yang telah dikumpulkan dari pihak rakyat oleh penjaga-penjaga pintu; 22:5 baiklah itu diberikan mereka ke tangan para pekerja yang diangkat untuk mengawasi rumah TUHAN, supaya diberikan kepada tukang-tukang yang ada di rumah TUHAN untuk memperbaiki kerusakan rumah itu, 22:6 yaitu kepada tukang-tukang kayu, tukang-tukang bangunan dan tukang-tukang tembok, juga bagi pembelian kayu dan batu pahat untuk memperbaiki rumah itu. 22:7 Tetapi tidak usahlah mengadakan perhitungan dengan mereka mengenai uang yang diberikan ke tangan mereka, sebab mereka bekerja dengan jujur." 22:8 Berkatalah imam besar Hilkia, kepada Safan, panitera itu: "Telah kutemukan kitab Taurat itu di rumah TUHAN!" Lalu Hilkia memberikan kitab itu kepada Safan, dan Safan terus membacanya. 22:9 Kemudian Safan, panitera itu, masuk menghadap raja, disampaikannyalah kabar tentang itu kepada raja: "Hamba-hambamu ini telah mengambil seluruh uang yang terdapat di rumah TUHAN dan memberikannya ke tangan para pekerja yang diangkat mengawasi rumah itu." 22:10 Safan, panitera itu, memberitahukan juga kepada raja: "Imam Hilkia telah memberikan kitab kepadaku," lalu Safan membacakannya di depan raja. 22:11 Segera sesudah raja mendengar perkataan kitab Taurat itu, dikoyakkannyalah pakaiannya. 22:12 Kemudian raja memberi perintah kepada imam Hilkia, kepada Ahikam bin Safan, kepada Akhbor bin Mikha, kepada Safan, panitera itu, dan kepada Asaya, hamba raja, katanya: 22:13 "Pergilah, mintalah petunjuk TUHAN bagiku, bagi rakyat dan bagi seluruh Yehuda, tentang perkataan kitab yang ditemukan ini, sebab hebat kehangatan murka TUHAN yang bernyala-nyala terhadap kita, oleh karena nenek moyang kita tidak mendengarkan perkataan kitab ini dengan berbuat tepat seperti yang tertulis di dalamnya." 22:14 Maka pergilah imam Hilkia, Ahikam, Akhbor, Safan dan Asaya kepada nabiah Hulda, isteri seorang yang mengurus pakaian-pakaian, yaitu Salum bin Tikwa bin Harhas; nabiah itu tinggal di Yerusalem, di perkampungan baru. Mereka memberitakan semuanya kepadanya. 22:15 Perempuan itu menjawab mereka: "Beginilah firman TUHAN, Allah Israel! Katakanlah kepada orang yang menyuruh kamu kepada-Ku! 22:16 Beginilah firman TUHAN: Sesungguhnya Aku akan mendatangkan malapetaka atas tempat ini dan atas penduduknya, yakni segala perkataan kitab yang telah dibaca oleh raja Yehuda;

Yosia adalah yang terakhir dari raja Yehuda yang benar. Pada usia yang muda (16 tahun) ia mulai dengan sungguh-sungguh mencari Tuhan (2Taw 34:3), dan empat tahun kemudian ia mulai membersihkan Yehuda dari penyembahan yang palsu (2Taw 34:3-4). Ketika Bait Suci sedang diperbaiki, Hilkia menemukan Kitab Taurat yang ditulis oleh Musa (2Taw 34:15); penemuan ini mendatangkan komitmen yang baru kepada Firman Allah dan pembaharuan rohani yang tidak menyeluruh terjadi di negeri itu (2Raj 23:1-30). Yosia ingin tahu apakah dosa-dosa Yehuda telah mencapai titik yang mengakibatkan hukuman ilahi tak terelakkan lagi.

1) Melalui Hulda, seorang nabi wanita, Allah mengatakan bahwa umat-Nya pada suatu hari pasti akan diserahkan ke tangan musuh (ayat 2Raj 22:14-17). Dengan kata lain, ketika umat Allah bersikeras berbuat dosa, tibalah waktunya hukuman Allah tidak dapat ditunda lagi.
2) Untuk jangka waktu yang terlalu lama umat Allah telah "mengolok-olok utusan-utusan Allah itu, menghina segala firman-Nya, dan mengejek nabi-nabi-Nya. Oleh sebab itu murka Tuhan bangkit terhadap umat-Nya, sehingga tidak mungkin lagi pemulihan" (2Taw 36:16). Kebangunan rohani yang diadakan Yosia hanya sekedar menunda kehancuran Yehuda, tetapi tidak bisa membatalkannya (ayat 2Raj 22:18-20; 23:24-27).
