1) Mereka mempunyai kuasa dan kemakmuran, tetapi sudah menjadi puas dengan dosa mereka. Mereka percaya bahwa keberhasilan materiel mereka membuktikan bahwa mereka hidup di bawah berkat Allah; mereka merasa yakin bahwa hukuman Allah takkan pernah datang.

Kalau demikian maksudnya maka kemerosotan kota-kota itu menjadi peringatan bagi bangsa Israel. Tetapi kota Kalne, bdk Yes 10:9, yang terletak di sebelah utara Alepo, dalam th 738 seb Mas barulah direbut oleh orang Asyur; kota Hamat yang terletak di tepi sungai Orontes baru direbut pada th 720 seb Mas dan Gad, kota orang Filistin, diduduki pada th 711 seb Mas.
