Tjeritera ini mengisahkan, bagaimana wangsa Sjaul dilenjapkan oleh Dawud. Sjaul telah melanggar sumpah Josjua' kepada penduduk Gibe'on. Sebagai hukuman Jahwe menimpakan patjeklik pada bangsa Israil. Untuk memulihkan kedjahatan Sjaul, maka keturunannja harus ditumpas. Hal mana terdjadi atas suruhan Dawud. Setelah terdjadi, maka Jahwe diperdamaikan dan bentjana berhenti. Kedjahatan Sjaul itu tidak diperdamaikan dan bentjana berhenti. Kedjahatan Sjaul itu tidak ditjeriterakan dalam Kitab Sutji. Rasa keigamaan jang nampak disini masih agak rendah dan primitip.
