Jude 1

Salutation

1:1 From Jude,id="1" /> a slaveid="2" /> of Jesus Christ and brother of James,id="3" /> to those who are called, wrapped in the love ofid="4" /> God the Father and kept forid="5" /> Jesus Christ. 1:2 May mercy, peace, and love be lavished on you!id="1" />

Condemnation of the False Teachers

1:3 Dear friends, although I have been eager to write to youid="1" /> about our common salvation, I now feel compelledid="2" /> instead to write to encourageid="3" /> you to contend earnestlyid="4" /> for the faithid="5" /> that was once for allid="6" /> entrusted to the saints.id="7" /> 1:4 For certain menid="1" /> have secretly slipped in among youid="2" /> – men who long agoid="3" /> were marked outid="4" /> for the condemnation I am about to describeid="5" /> – ungodly men who have turned the grace of our God into a license for evilid="6" /> and who deny our only Masterid="7" /> and Lord,id="8" /> Jesus Christ.

1:5 Now I desire to remind you (even though you have been fully informed of these factsid="1" /> once for allid="2" />) that Jesus,id="3" /> having saved theid="4" /> people out of the land of Egypt, laterid="5" /> destroyed those who did not believe. 1:6 You also know thatid="1" /> the angels who did not keep within their proper domainid="2" /> but abandoned their own place of residence, he has keptid="3" /> in eternal chainsid="4" /> in utterid="5" /> darkness, locked upid="6" /> for the judgment of the great Day. 1:7 So alsoid="1" /> Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring towns,id="2" /> since they indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desireid="3" /> in a way similar toid="4" /> these angels,id="5" /> are now displayed as an example by suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

1:8 Yet these men,id="1" /> as a result of their dreams,id="2" /> defile the flesh, reject authority,id="3" /> and insultid="4" /> the glorious ones.id="5" /> 1:9 But evenid="1" /> when Michael the archangelid="2" /> was arguing with the devil and debating with himid="3" /> concerning Moses’ body, he did not dare to bring a slanderous judgment, but said, “May the Lord rebuke you!” 1:10 But these men do not understand the things they slander, and they are being destroyed by the very things that, like irrational animals, they instinctively comprehend.id="1" /> 1:11 Woe to them! For they have traveled down Cain’s path,id="1" /> and because of greedid="2" /> have abandoned themselvesid="3" /> toid="4" /> Balaam’s error; hence,id="5" /> they will certainly perishid="6" /> in Korah’s rebellion. 1:12 These men areid="1" /> dangerous reefsid="2" /> at your love feasts,id="3" /> feasting without reverence,id="4" /> feeding only themselves.id="5" /> They areid="6" /> waterlessid="7" /> clouds, carried along by the winds; autumn trees without fruitid="8" /> – twice dead,id="9" /> uprooted; 1:13 wild sea waves,id="1" /> spewing out the foam ofid="2" /> their shame;id="3" /> wayward starsid="4" /> for whom the utter depths of eternal darknessid="5" /> have been reserved.

1:14 Now Enoch, the seventh in descent beginning with Adam,id="1" /> even prophesied of them,id="2" /> saying, “Look! The Lord is comingid="3" /> with thousands and thousandsid="4" /> of his holy ones, 1:15 to execute judgment onid="1" /> all, and to convict every personid="2" /> of all their thoroughly ungodly deedsid="3" /> that they have committed,id="4" /> and of all the harsh words that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”id="5" /> 1:16 These people are grumblers andid="1" /> fault-finders who goid="2" /> wherever their desires lead them,id="3" /> and they give bombastic speeches,id="4" /> enchanting folksid="5" /> for their own gain.id="6" />

Exhortation to the Faithful

1:17 But you, dear friends – recall the predictionsid="1" /> foretold by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.id="2" /> 1:18 For they said to you, “In the end time there will comeid="1" /> scoffers, propelled by their own ungodly desires.”id="2" /> 1:19 These people are divisive,id="1" /> worldly,id="2" /> devoid of the Spirit.id="3" /> 1:20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith, by praying in the Holy Spirit,id="1" /> 1:21 maintainid="1" /> yourselves in the love of God, while anticipatingid="2" /> the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that brings eternal life.id="3" /> 1:22 And have mercy on those who waver; 1:23 saveid="1" /> others by snatching them out of the fire; have mercyid="2" /> on others, coupled with a fear of God,id="3" /> hating even the clothes stainedid="4" /> by the flesh.id="5" />

Final Blessing

1:24 Now to the one who is able to keep you from falling,id="1" /> and to cause you to stand, rejoicing,id="2" /> without blemishid="3" /> before his glorious presence,id="4" /> 1:25 to the only God our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time, and now, and for all eternity. Amen.
