Nicopolis = "city of victory" 1) There were many cities by this name, -- in Armenia, Pontus, Cilicia, Epirus, Thrace -- which were generally built or had there name changed, by some conqueror to commemorate a victory. The one in Tit 3:12 seems to refer to the city was built by Augustus in memory of the battle of Actium on a promontory of Epirius.
